Your destination with public transport shall be Tartu bus station or train station, where we have scheduled pick up transfer service organized. For those who arrive with some spare time, we recommend taking a walk in Tartu. Your destination when you drive by car shall be Järvselja.  

 

For the convenience of our guests, the programme and overnight stay will be in one place - Järvselja Study and Science forest district, the legendary forests for former students who studied forestry in Estonian University of Life Sciences or the Biology in the University of Tartu.  You shall be situated 1h from Tartu to the east.

 

Accommodating in rooms and the registration for field trips shall be available on the arrival. Participation fee takes care of 3 meals a day and additional coffee breaks as well as for the accommodation in cosy but modest shared dormitory rooms. Remember Ase in Sweden?

Parking is for free and there is also room for caravans and tents.

 BUS and TRAIN
Tartu
  • The trip from Tallinn to Tartu takes around 2.5 hours, with buses leaving Tallinn every half an hour or so from 5:40 to 23:59. On the hour, every hour from 7:00 to 20:00 comfortable Lux Express buses depart on the Tartu-Tallinn-Tartu route. You can use power outlets, free WiFi, listen to music or watch movies and enjoy free hot drinks such as tea, coffee, and cocoa. All Lux Express buses stop at Tallinn Airport in both directions. We shall meet you in Järvselja. Take your GPS or paper map, phones don`t work very well in the forests. 

BY PLANE
  • Tartu is situated in Southern Estonia and directly accessible by plane via Helsinki. Helsinki-Tartu flights are operated by Finnair seven days a week. Flight time is 50 minutes. Tickets for the flights leaving from Tartu Airport can be bought only on the Finnair website and from travel agencies. 

  • You can also Travel to Tartu through Tallinn and Riga. Tallinn’s International Airport is located just outside the city center, on the road to Tartu. It is comfortable to rent a car, take a bus or Airport Shuttle service. Riga's International Airport is connected with Tartu trough Lux Express buses.

 

Have more time for traveling to the conference? 

  • Fly to Helsinki or Stockholm, take the (overnight) ferry to Tallinn and bus/train to Tartu.

  • Ferries cross the Gulf of Finland between Tallinn and Helsinki several times a day, covering the distance in roughly 2 to 3 hours. From late spring to late autumn, high-speed vessels also operate on the route, reducing travel time to Tallinn just 1.5 hours. Please see train/bus section next.

  • Ferries between Tallinn and Stockholm depart every evening, with the trip taking approximately 15 hours. Please see train/bus section next.

Tartu
 

Eight times a day you can take a train between Tallinn and Tartu. Fast, comfortable diesel trains take you to your destination in two hours.
